In a previous article I described a generic warm-up procedure for all sports. It starts with light activity designed to increase body temperature, followed by a dynamic stretching routine and ends with a bout of high intensity sport-specific activity.

This basic warm-up guideline will help to physically prepare athletes for competition, however, to further enhance performance athletes also need to mentally prepare.

Athletes mentally prepare in different ways – some lock themselves away in a quite room, others listen to loud music, while others like to be social and jovial with their teammates.
